During the life of the Hull Balloon Barrage, of those who had served in East Riding Balloon Squadrons in the RAF unfortunately some became casualties. Of the local men who originally joined into the Auxiliary Air Force in 1939 it is recorded that 23 died whose ages ranged from 31 to 58. Of the RAF Volunteer Reserve there were 5 deaths and the demise of 4 regulars of the Royal Air Force. The service of the Woman's Auxiliary Air Force in the Balloon Squadrons is not forgotten if there were casualties unfortunately they cannot be traced by records.
